Have you ever wondered how young children develop and grow? The following is a four step process that youth players and children go through while they are growing and developing: 1. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Young children move out of reflex with no intention or control. During the first years in soccer, movements are very unbalanced and uncoordinated. As they continue to practice, they start t…

During a coaching seminar I asked the coaches if they talk to the parents. Some of the coaches responded this way: “I never talk to the parents about the game because they don’t coach and don’t understand the game of soccer”. Is it true that most parents cannot coach, do not understand the game of soccer and have little comprehension about techniques and tactics? Is it not also true that in this country 95% of coaches are parents who volunteer? …

The activities in the youth sector, 10 - 12 years of age, have as the main objectives the teaching of all individual abilities that represent the fundamental base of the game of soccer. The individual abilities are what we call, the technical fundamentals, the individual tactical fundamentals and the techniques of the players.
Unfortunately the instructors that work with these delicate age groups do not always incorporate the objectives mentioned above, but instead they turn their atte…

In the modern game of soccer, the defender is not only the player who covers all the roles on the defensive side. The player or the players who are not in possession of the ball should also be considered defenders. One of the simple rule to make young players understand who is the defender on the field at any given time is to explain that the player that is the "closest" to the ball is a defender. He is the one who needs to pressure the ball first.
Let's try to examine t

I coach two U14's boys teams on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for 1 hour each and an adult male team Thursdays, re: U14's the majority want to learn and improve technique and skills. however, it only takes a distraction from 2/3 to disrupt the session and is very hard work keeping the group focussed, the adult group are not as bad general faults are poor punctuality.
Anyone have similar experiences?

Pia Sundhage was hired today to coach the U.S. Women's National Team through the 2008 Olympics.
This is an interesting choice. Sundhage, 47, was a star for Sweden (country's all-time leading scorer) and recently was an assistant with the Chinese national team. She assumes her role immediately and will start getting the U.S. team ready for the Four Nations tournament in China in January.
Sundhage has coached in the WUSA and is said to be familiar with many of the U.S. players. It…

I found it very exiting being at the Tottenham academy even though i support West Ham! It was a bit of a shock though, going from a small sunday league team to a academy is a very big step up, in the first few sessions i was there they gave me lighter work to do, just so i could see how things worked around the place, but once i became involved it was so hard the work they made me do compared to what i was used to was just completely different, i adapted as quick as possible but it was so har…

You could almost feel that the Hope Solo-Briana Scurry goalie controversy was going to cost Greg Ryan his job ... and today it did. Less than a month after the top-ranked U.S. Women's team got hammered in the World Cup semifinal vs. Brazil, U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati pulled the trigger today.
Ryan was 45-1-9 since taking over the team in early '05, but the controversy continued to hang over Ryan and U.S. team. Ryan was second-guessed by almost everybody at the time when he pull…

The men's D-I soccer season has almost mirrored the roller coaster ride in D-I football, meaning Top 5 rankings change every week and on any given day anybody can beat you. If you saw Friday night's Big East thriller on the FOX Soccer Channel between No. 1 Connecticut and No. 20 West Virginia (depending on the poll) you witnessed a snapshot of what the season has been like so far. A hard fought battle ended in a 1-0 West Virginia victory, a wild celebration in Morgantown and another shuffle i…

I believe it is the ability to master ones role and positions on the pitch.
Be it Defense, Midfield or Forward(Attack)! Those are then further broken-up into the different positions that they consist of eg. Defense:Goal Keeper, Central Back, Left Wing Back
Midfield: Central Attacking Midfield, Central Defensive Midfield
Forward: Right Forward, Right Striker
There are different positions for each role and before one can master his/ her position they will have to…

We all know that he has made the stepover a valuable part of his list of tricks and we all know that he used these moves long ago during the early stages of his career, now with his suden and extreme popularity (after the worldcup and last season) we have seen numbers of average players trying to add the st…

I had practice down at the training ground, It was absolutely breath taking for me. I have surpised myself so much this training day, I couldn't feel anything on my leg nothing but in a good way. My shot were alright didn't really feel the vibe of shooting with my left, Maybe its because i have to put pressure on my right to shoot with my left. I will go to the training ground soon and work on it, because i really need to.
